In 2012 I was fortunate enough to pick up a nice 1871 4" telescope on an early Clark German Equitorial mount and tripod. I'm also fortunate to live in the Boston area where several others collect Clark telescopes. And strangely enough: 3 of us in the area have 4" 1871 made Clark OTAs. So we met and compared them all and found that they are all different. Very strange. Different length, different cells, different finder bracket spacing, different lacquer colors, etc. the only real constant was exact tube diameter. Go figure.
